The Art of Ghost Mannequin
Bring your apparel to life — our ghost mannequin edits create a natural, 3D look that showcases your products just as customers would wear them.
Our Ghost Mannequin Editing Process – Step-by-Step Perfection for Apparel Images
Creating clean, high-impact product photos—especially for fashion items—requires precision and technique. Here’s how we transform your raw images into polished visuals that are ready to
Clipping Path for Mannequin Removal
We start by carefully creating a clipping path around the garment to isolate it from the mannequin. This allows us to remove the dummy cleanly while preserving the natural shape and edges of the clothing.
Adding Top & Bottom Joint Parts
Once the mannequin is removed, we reconstruct the missing areas—like the neckline, shoulders, or hem—by adding the top and bottom joint parts. This creates a complete, realistic 3D look that mimics how the garment would appear on a person.
Liquify for Reshaping & Symmetry
Using liquify tools, we reshape the garment to enhance its form and symmetry. This step ensures the clothing looks balanced, flattering, and professionally styled—especially important for items like shirts, dresses, or pants.
Wrinkle Removal
We smooth out unwanted creases and wrinkles to give the fabric a freshly ironed appearance. This helps the product look clean, high-quality, and ready for display.
Color & Light Adjustment
Finally, we adjust brightness, contrast, and color tones to ensure consistency across your product catalog. If needed, we enhance vibrancy or correct color shifts to match your brand’s visual standards.
Final Delivery
Your edited images are delivered in your requested formats—PSD, JPG, PNG, or others—optimized for eCommerce platforms like Shopify, Amazon, WooCommerce, and more.
This process ensures your apparel looks sleek, professional, and ready to convert clicks into customers. Want help writing a matching gig title or tagline? I’ve got ideas for that too.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
A: Ghost mannequin editing is when you photograph clothing on a mannequin (or dummy) and then remove the mannequin (or parts of it) in post. The goal is to make the garment look like it’s being worn by an invisible model: “floating” or hollow, but still holding its natural shape and depth.
It matters because it gives your product images a clean, professional, premium look. Customers can focus on the garment itself — the shape, drape, design — without any distractions from mannequins showing. Especially for fashion / e-commerce, it really helps when your photos look polished and high quality.
A: The ones that hold shape well — jackets, shirts, dresses, outerwear, structured garments tend to respond best. If your item has collars, necklines, sleeves, overlapping parts (e.g. inside backs), or hems that need showing, you’ll often need extra “insert” shots (like interior, neck, side panels) to reconstruct those hidden parts.
Fabrics that wrinkle heavily, are sheer, or transparent are trickier — but with care, we can still get good results.
A: To make sure the ghost effect looks clean and seamless, here’s what’s super helpful:
- A straight-on shot of the garment on a mannequin (front, and sometimes back)
- Insert shots: for inside collar, inner back, sleeves’ interiors, bottom hem, etc. — any part that will be “filled in” when the mannequin is removed
- Clean, well-lit photos (ideally no harsh shadows or blown highlights)
- Notes / instructions: how you want collars styled, whether you want wrinkles smoothed, any visual reference styles you like
If you don’t have every insert, I can often still work with what you provide — just know that more reference photos = better final quality.
A:
- You can send: JPG, PNG, TIFF, PSD, RAW — whatever you have (higher resolution is always better)
- You’ll receive: The final edited image(s) in the format(s) you prefer (JPG / PNG / PSD etc.), with clean or transparent background as needed, and any shadows/reflections if requested. If you’d like, I can provide layered files (PSD / TIFF) so you can tweak later.
If you tell me in advance which e-commerce platform, catalog format, or style you need, I’ll format accordingly.
A: Turnaround depends on how many images you have, how complex the garments are, and how many insert shots are needed. As a rough idea:
- Simple items with good source images: ~ 24 hours
- More complex items / batches: ~ 1-2 days
- Rush or express jobs: possible if you need them fast — just let me know in advance.
I try to always be realistic so you know when to expect delivery.
A: Pricing usually depends on:
- The number of images
- How complex the garment(s) are (many seams, inside parts, folds, wrinkles)
- Whether I need to “guess” insert parts or you supply them
- The format / quality you want (flat JPG, layered PSD, shadows etc.)
- How fast you want delivery
If you send me 2–3 sample images and tell me what style you’re aiming for, I’ll give you a precise quote — no guesswork. And yes — for bulk orders I can offer discounts.
A: Absolutely. Revisions are part of my process. If something isn’t quite right — maybe the inner area looks odd, the collar isn’t natural, or a seam is misaligned — tell me exactly what you see, and I’ll fix it. If it’s within the original scope, revisions are free. If you want something totally new beyond that, we’ll discuss what extra time or cost is fair. Your satisfaction is the goal.
A: Even though ghost mannequin editing is powerful, there are real limits:
- If the original photo is very blurry, overexposed, or underexposed, a lot of detail may be lost.
- Sheer or transparent fabrics are tricky — sometimes parts will show slight artifacts.
- Very extreme wrinkles or distortions may not “flatten” perfectly.
- If you don’t provide needed insert shots (neck, inside back, etc.), I may have to improvise — and that could slightly alter the final look.
I’ll always let you know about tricky parts before I start so there are no surprises.
A: Here’s how I like to work — simple and clear:
- You send sample images + instructions (style, effect you like, etc.)
- I review and provide a quote + estimated delivery time
- You approve, send full batch + extra shots
- I do the editing, send draft previews if needed
- You check, suggest tweaks
- Final images delivered
A: Yes — I usually offer a low-cost or free trial on 1–2 images so you can see my style, quality, and turnaround before sending the full job.
A: They’re totally safe. I treat every project with care and confidentiality. Your images stay private. You get full rights to the final edited photos. If you prefer, I’m happy to sign an NDA. For large files, we use secure transfer methods.
